People often ask us what they should do when they visit Incline Village.

Our answer is almost always the same:

Slow down.

Unlike many mountain destinations, Incline Village isn’t a place to rush from one attraction to the next. It’s a community best experienced at a slower pace, where mornings begin with coffee overlooking the lake, afternoons are spent hiking, boating, or golfing, and evenings end watching the sun disappear behind the Sierra Nevada.

Having called Incline Village home for decades, we’ve come to appreciate that it’s often the little things visitors remember most. The scent of the pines after a summer rain. Crystal-clear water that changes color throughout the day. Fresh snow sparkling beneath bluebird skies. Running into friends while grabbing coffee or walking through the Village.

While there are plenty of websites listing the “Top 10 Things to Do,” we wanted to create something different.

This is the guide we’d share with close friends before their first visit—and many of the same recommendations we give clients who are considering making Incline Village their home.

What Makes Incline Village Different?

Every Lake Tahoe community has its own personality.

South Lake Tahoe is larger and more energetic. Truckee has its historic downtown and mountain-town charm. Kings Beach offers a relaxed beach atmosphere.

Incline Village feels different.

It’s quieter. More residential. More connected to the outdoors than nightlife. You’ll find championship golf courses, beautiful beaches, miles of hiking and biking trails, world-class skiing just minutes away, and neighborhoods tucked among towering Jeffrey pines rather than rows of hotels.

If a close friend called and asked us how to spend a perfect day in Incline Village, this would be our recommendation.

Not because it’s the only way to experience the community, but because it captures everything that makes living here so special.

Start with Coffee and a Walk

There’s something magical about Lake Tahoe in the morning. The lake is often at its calmest, the air is crisp, and the trails are still quiet.

Grab a coffee from one of Incline Village’s local cafés, then head to the East Shore Trail. Stretching south toward Sand Harbor, it’s one of the most scenic paved walking and biking trails in the country, with breathtaking overlooks of Lake Tahoe’s famously clear turquoise water.

If you’d rather stay close to town, take a leisurely walk along Incline Beach or Burnt Cedar Beach. Early mornings are peaceful, and you’ll often find locals walking their dogs, paddleboarders launching onto glass-like water, or simply enjoying the quiet before the day begins.

Spend the Afternoon Outside

One thing you’ll quickly notice about Incline Village is that life revolves around the outdoors.

Depending on the season, that might mean boating, paddleboarding, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, golfing, or simply relaxing on one of the community’s beautiful beaches.

Winter brings a completely different rhythm. Diamond Peak Ski Resort is just minutes from the center of town, while Mt. Rose, Palisades Tahoe, Northstar California, and Heavenly are all within an easy drive, making Incline Village one of the few places where world-class skiing is part of everyday life.

Slow Down in the Evening

As the day winds down, locals tend to do exactly what brought them here in the first place—slow down.

Enjoy dinner at one of Incline Village’s excellent restaurants, take an evening walk along the shoreline, or simply find a quiet place to watch the sunset as the colors reflect across the lake.

It’s often these simple moments—not the busiest ones—that people remember long after they’ve returned home.

While summer gets most of the attention, ask many longtime residents about their favorite month and you’ll often hear the same answer: September.

The lake is still warm enough to swim, the days remain sunny, and the summer crowds have largely disappeared. Restaurants are easier to get into, beaches are quieter, and the pace of life slows just enough to remind you why people love living here.

Lake Tahoe Never Looks the Same Twice
